5 Vegas is a line distributed by Cigar International and the new 5 Vegas Miami is being manufactured by G.R. Tabacaleres which is owned and operated by George Rico. GR Tabacaleres opened its doors in 2012 in the Little Havana district of Miami, Florida. They are also responsiblee for George Rico S.T.K. Miami American Puro and Barracuda which are distributed by Santa Cruz Tobacci/Gran Habano Cigars. They are also the home of the one of a kind G.A.R. Deli.

The 5 Vegas Miami is available in 4 Sizes; Robusto (5 x 50), Churchill (7 x 48), Tor0 (6 x 50), Gordo (6 x 60) and Topedo (6.1 x 52).

Cigar: 5 Vegas Miami
Size: Toro (6 x 50)
Wrapper: Ecuador Habano
Binder: Not disclosed
Filler: Nicaragua
Strength: Full
Number Smoked: 1

Appearance & Construction: The new 5 Vegas Miami from GR Tabacaleres for Cigar international is the shade of an autumn leaf that has fallen to the ground. There is some tooth to the cigar and some medium sized veins that distract from a nice shade of Habano wrapper from Ecuador. The band is white, gold, black and red and denotes the brand name and hand made in the USA. The foot of the cigar is well packed with some visible ligero tobacco and a well placed cuban-esque cap.

Flavor & Notes: The cold draw of the 5 Vegas Miami reminds me paprika while the foot of the cigar serves up some notes of earth and more spice similar to paprika. The initial light of the cigar merges in nicely wigth first third serving up notes that are toasty, and nutty with a slight sweetness on the finish.

The second third of the cigar it begins to become a bit bitter, with notes of earth and nuts and the draw feels wet from the heat of the cigar due to a knot just above the band.

In the final third of the cigar, I was able to assuage the knot out of the cigar and the toasty notes returned. There was some nuts and earth on the finish as well.

Smoking Characteristics: I was concerned about the draw as it was tough on the cold draw. Once lit the tough draw continued with a knot just above the band of the cigar which was to much to cut. The burn of the cigar was pretty ugly with a thick carbon line and uneven burn.

Overall: While the 5 Vegas Miami started with nice flavors, the knot of the cigar caused it to burn hot and the cigar got soft below the band from the built up heat. Sadly, I was only sent one sample to smoke and I refuse to shop at some of the catalog companies and prefer to spend my money with a brick & mortar or with an established retailer with an online presence. George Rico makes some great cigars, but sadly this is not one of them based on my experience.

Price: $6.00
Score: 82
